FREE Online Education Series: Readiness, Not Rushing: Preparing Your Adult Child for Independent Living
Readiness, Not Rushing: Preparing Your Adult Child for Independent Living is a free online education session for parents and caregivers of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are exploring independent living options.
This live Zoom session will cover how to recognize signs of readiness for independence, housing options beyond traditional group homes—including supportive roommate models—and practical steps families can take now to build daily living skills and confidence.
The session features guest speaker Garrett Ackerman, founder and CEO of Homies, a California-based life sharing program that connects adults with disabilities to supportive roommates, creating meaningful paths to independence through genuine relationships.
