About the Class
Ever wondered what it takes to make a live theater production truly magical? This hands-on class is your chance to dive into the world of backstage production! Led by our experienced Creative Director, you’ll learn the essential skills of set construction, lighting design, costume creation, and prop making—everything that happens behind the scenes to make a show shine.
Whether you dream of working in theater, film, or live entertainment or simply want to try something new, this class will teach you the fundamentals of theatrical production and help you build the confidence to take on backstage responsibilities.
By the end of the session, you’ll have gained practical experience by working on a live production, contributing your skills to an exciting final showcase!

When: Wednesdays from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM (16 Weeks)
Class Starts: August 28th, 2024
Final Production: December 14th & 15th, 2024
Cost: $500 + $48 registration fee

Meet Your Instructor: Katie McColm
Katie McColm’s journey into theater, design, and visual arts started in high school, but her passion for creativity has taken her through an impressive career in cosmetology, fire performance, interior design, and theatrical production.
After launching her own fire production company, she honed her skills in prop-making, set design, and costume creation, earning sponsorships and media features in LA Weekly and the OC Register. Her talents have been showcased across Los Angeles and Orange County, including at RAW Artists and Art & Chocolate events.
During the pandemic, Katie pursued a degree in interior design, graduating Cum Laude, and later transitioned into the world of live theater and event coordination at JDS Creative Academy. She has already made a huge impact, bringing productions like Wizard of Oz and DigiFest® to life, and now she’s excited to share her expertise with you!
